Remember a little while ago when The Conservatives proudly told the nation that they had ended our freedom of movement around the country? Well over the past week the governments logistical chickens have come home to roost in the form of a petrol crisis. The lack of HGV drivers mixed with people panic buying has meant that a lot of petrol stations on the network are running dry.
However it didn't have to be like this at all once again the Prime Minister has shown that he is lazy and not in control, he was aware in July that there could be severe shortages however he didn't do the work to correct the ship before it hit the iceberg a lot like his initial and ongoing responses to the covid pandemic. What the Prime Minister needs to do is allow all freight drivers an open ended visa to come and go with deliveries. It has been allegedly slated that the the Home Secretary will allow drivers to come in until Christmas which isn't good enough it is a lot like putting a plaster on a severed arm.
The most depressing thing about the fuel shortage is it was entirely predictable and avoidable it was in the yellow hammer report that was commissioned to see what the effects of leaving the EU would be however judging by Michael Gove's previous comments on everyone being fed up of experts it wouldn't be a surprise if the government just ignored the report all together, as well as petrol stations having to close due to lack of of supply fights and brawls have erupted in some forecourts, this is a country the Conservatives are creating
So where is our Prime Minister to guide us through this crisis? He is asleep at the wheel again, A look at his Twitter account hasn't mentioned anything about petrol recently. The Conservatives do this very strange thing and we saw it in full force when Dominic Cummings went on his trip to Durham last year where Minister will essentially copy and paste Tweets then send them and they are doing it here now. We can not have a copy and paste government we need a Prime Minister that will stand on the steps of Downing Street to address and calm the nation through strife and uncertain times.
I have already said that the Government's chickens are coming home to roost however it is looking highly likely now that supply chains could be affected in the run up to leading to Christmas leading to shortages so we we might not even end up getting the turkey!!
